SUBJECT: # 39542: Sea Doo Boat for Fishing?

Submitted by Jamie (66.184.216.74) from ALABAMA on 7/12/05 2:22:00 PM

Hey! This might sound crazy, but does anyone ever fish out of one of the Sea Doo jet boats? The kids want something fun to run around in, but I want to fish also, and mainly fish in the bay. Thanks for any input!

First the trailer is painted, so be prepared to replace it every two years.

All your electrical on that boat is just plain copper, so be prepared to replace all your wiring and switches frequently.

If you have a lot of grass in your bays, you'll be jumping out and clearing the intake frequently.

The Rotax engine isn't built for marine (saltwater) so you'll be replacing cooling parts quite often.

    Yeah, go for it.

Sounds like you might have already had a bad experience with one - any further input out there?

Jamie, there's one of those that occasionally fishes next to me at the power plant discharge at the local lake. Always two or three teeny-twenty-something young guys in it, and it looks like it would require the agility of that age group to handle being in the boat. Just doesn't look like there's a lot of space for fishing paraphernalia, not to mention extra room for fishermen to stretch their legs.

I used to sell them, and a boat would come in from time to time which was used in saltwater. Pathetic mess they were.

I would have to rig the rod holders, trolling motor, etc. It just looked like a great boat (despite the small size) to run around shallow water in. Sounds like durability might be a problem, however.

I have a 2001 Sea Doo Speedster, and the wires connecting to the fuse box ( such as the navigation lights, blower etc.) inadvertently got pulled off when removing the cap to the fuse box. Unbelievable as it sounds, Bombardier and my dealer are unable to provide a simple schematic as to which pins these wires connect to. They say I have to buy a mechanics manual, but this is not in print right now. If anyone has the Speedster, I would greatly appreciate if you can just give me the order of the wires as they connect to the fuse box (the wires are color-coded ). The fuse box is located under the storage compartment ( which lifts out) in the dash at the driver's seat.

Again if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it!
