SUBJECT: # 39984: salmon trolling

Submitted by Ing (75.62.108.119) from CALIFORNIA on 3/19/2008 1:45:00 AM

How stiff should be rod for salmon trolling?
There is opinion that softer rod is providing better lure playing. So, what rod is better - rated 20lb, 30lb or 40lb?
Thanks

http://www.allcoast.com/discussion/ Might find a few folks on the Pacific Northwest or Alaska sections that have firm opinions on that. Been a few years since I was out there, but seem to recall that the head boats used the same rig that they did for albacore, 30 lb. with a fairly soft rod tip. Good luck.
