SUBJECT: # 40004: Mobile Bay help?

Submitted by Mjg553 (71.10.171.51) from MISSOURI on 5/20/2008 9:36:00 PM

I'm planning a trip to Fort Morgan in June and would appreciate any help I can get catching trout and reds. I'm reading everything I can get my hands on. I fish primarily freshwater in the Midwest, so this is a little new to me. From what I've read, my prime targets should be oyster beds, grass flats, and the inshore gas platforms? My plan was to try to fish around the Dauphin Island bridge, the gas platforms just north of Fort Morgan, and around the Oyster Bay area. Am I on the right track? Or am I wasting my time with any of these spots? If anybody has any alternate suggestions, I'd love to hear some opinions. I love the challenge of finding fish, so I'm not asking for specific hot spots, just a little help pointing me in the right direction. And if I can help anyone with fishing in Missouri I'd be more than happy to help. Thanks in advance. Happy fishing.

I wish we had red's like that around here in those kind of numbers.

Mjg; it sounds like you're on the right track. I haven't fished that area in 10 years but we aways did well there. I like an Exude 5" RT slug worked as a topwater over grass or beds and it's hard to beat live shrimp around any structure. If the weather is rough it's hard to beat live baitfish fished on the edges of the intercoastal heading toward or into Florida. I've caught a lot of "gator" trout that way. And a gold spoon will work almost anywhere there's water.

I got saltwater running through my veins, I just can't do much about it living 350 miles inland.
