I have a 2000 200hp Johnson OceanPro. This past weekend I launched the boat, started the motor with no problems, and ran about 10 miles to my fishing hole. As I was coming off plane, the motor died and never started back up. I had to get towed in. The next day, I put the hose on it to see what would happen and it started. Dropped the boat in the water, ran around a bit, started and stopped the motor a couple of times, then ran for about 8 miles and stopped the motor. Wouldn't start after that. Cranked on the motor for about an hour and finally got it started and made it home. I haven't tried anything since.
It will be a week or two before I can get it to my mechanic but I wanted to know if anyone had any ideas on what might be the problem.
Thanks,
Chris

FreeOnBoard from TX says Check the basics - fuel and spark
Chris, no knowledge here about that particular model, but it's usually a good idea to check the plugs, especially when it's refusing to start. If they're completely dry it's not getting fuel, and if they're overly wet and oily it may be flooding. If it didn't put out a big cloud of smoke when it finally did start last time, I'd think fuel starvation is the more likely, maybe a bad fuel pump or clogged line. I've checked for the presence of spark by holding a plug against the engine block while someone turns the key. If the spark is dropping out intermittently, the problem may need to be seen by a mechanic, but I'd first make sure that either the kill switch or the key switch isn't grounding the magneto when they shouldn't. Good luck.

Sound like a power pac crapping out to me. Could be a stator.
