SUBJECT: # 27904: 1994 Johnson 15hp Break-in Procedure

Submitted by Rick (12.179.197.226) from NORTH CAROLINA on 7/25/2008 2:48:00 PM

It's been a long time. But, this board is still my "go to" place for the best answers.

I just bought a 15hp 1994 Johnson. It looks new. I'm going to be safe and run the break-in on it. No manual came with it.

I know double oil. Is this unit a 50:1?

Idle for the first 10 minutes?
No more than half throttle for the next two hours?
After that vary the throttle up to full?
Don't stay in any one position for more than 10 minutes?

How's my memory?

Do this for the first 6 gallon tank or 10 hours or what?

Thanks

That should do it.. 25 to 1 mix.. Then after ten hours change the gear oil..

I'd be consecerned about the water pump. If it's been in the engine since 94' it's got a nasty set to it.. It may not move enough water..
