SUBJECT: # 27948: Rich/Lean condition

Submitted by John (64.102.254.33) from NORTH CAROLINA on 3/25/2010 8:25:00 AM

Guys,

I remember a thread on this board regarding what was called a rich/lean condition. The symptoms of this are that in the hot months my engine (2003 Johnson 150 carbed) starts and runs fine when cold, but then when I turn it off and go to restart it starts, sputters, coughs and conks out. It usually runs after several tries, and if I can push it quickly sometimes I can "power through" the sputtering and it runs fast fine.

Two questions on this. 1) I have a friend with an inboard/outboard with the same symptoms...is it possible to have this on an I/O?? and 2) what is the fix? If I remember you need to set some cylinders a bit richer than others.

please check out this site, my 98 Johnson 150 seems to run better after this fix, not sure about an i/o.
