Marine Diesels- how do you winterize?
I have a 43 HP Yanmar and 45 HP Westerbie that I need to double check to make sure they were winterized properly. Both Boats are in the yard now and are Shrink rapped (with an access door). I need a basic step by step process of what, how and when to winterize diesels. I just ordered a book to help me, and I am going to be looking into local Marine diesel classes.
Thanks for all the help!

Sal (205.188.197.59) from CALIFORNIA says Diesels.
If they are shrink wrapped they must be out of the boat ......no need to worry if no water is in them.
If they are in the boat, make sure you mix enough antifreeze per your temp. range [ where you live ]
+ 30 below your estimated coldest day to keep from freezing.
If there is fuel in the tank, get a stabizer to prevent agae from forming in the fuel & to keep it stablized, make sure it reads for diesel on the can, not gas.

drain salt water cooling system, or run anti freez tru the system until it comes out exhaust, cover or plug exhaust pipe at stern.
take impeller out of saltwater pump to prevent it developing a set in the vanes.
