SUBJECT: # 19288: Mitchell Cove 32

Submitted by Capt. Tom (24.128.73.47) from MASSACHUSETTS on 3/11/2001 11:06:00 AM

Anyone know about, or have any experience with the Mitchell Cove 32.

Got a call his AM from one of the people I do charters for, either I Captain or first mate depending on the particular charter.

He just got back from Key West and is having the boat delivered this week for cod fishing next month. Told me to get rigged and ready.

Just interested in any opinions since I am not familiar with this boat. Boat has a single 420 HP diesel(CAT?)

One of his boats I ran a few years back was a 35 JC which would terrorize you in a big following sea. Hope this Mitchell Cove is a lot better.- Tom

Tom when I was looking at downeast boats that boat was tops on my list. I looked at several including new. The used ones depending on who finished them were good solid boats. The mitchell cove with factory top has solid glass gunnels, many tops finished by boat owners themselves had glass over wood with the wood exposed underneath the gunnel. I talked with the owner of Mitchell boats and went downeast to their factory. (if thats what you want to call it) They had several buildings that they work out of. They don't finish any boats off anymore because they have to many orders for hulls and tops. There are many good guys out there to finish them off. That boat should scream with the motor you stated. As far as comparing them to JC or eastern its like a Bayliner compared to a Cabo. I ended up not getting one because it was a little high for my budget. The used ones were all work boats and while they were in good shape for a work boat they were beat up from gear ect. I had decided if I was going to spend that kind of money I wanted a boat that wasn't fished for a living. So I bought a new 28' custom Downeast boat. Had Mitchell cove built a boat smaller than 32' I would have seriously considered their boat. Have fun you'll fall in love with that boat. I had also talked with several 32 mitchell cove owners and they love their boats.

    Spike
