SUBJECT: # 22398: Timonium MD, Boat Show

Submitted by RickK (64.12.104.44) from VIRGINIA on 1/12/2002 8:22:00 PM

Went to the Timonium Boat Show today at the Mary Land State Fair grounds. Overall there was a good selection of trailer boats, fishing seminars and tackle vendors.

Parker has a new this year 21 foot pilot house boat. Wow! It's a no-frills boat and not very ornate, but does it have room! There's room for fishing in the cockpit and room in the pilot house which appears relatively huge because there's no bulkhead between the berths and the helm/seating area. No fish or bait boxes, but like I said, a no-frills boat. It's a genuine 21 degree deadrise, pilot house boat with a full bulkhead and door that closes off between the cockpit and pilot house. This is what I consider a DRY boat. The guy said it weighs about 3300 lbs without the motor/fuel. It was powered by a 150 HDPI Yamaha so its underpowered. Price without a trailer was 36+

The other boat that caught my eye was the 24 foot Orca........another nice pilot house boat with a Mercruiser and Bravo I outdrive. Aren't the Bravo I's the cheap outdrives? Another well laid out boat marked down to 69+ but probably on the high side for trailering with a 3/4 ton.

The tackle and other stuff was overpriced. I'm looking for a couple of 113HLW's and a guy wanted $125 each. I can get them from Boaters World for $105 (somewhere around a there) plus my daughters 20% discount..........no brainer........

The $8 admission fee included the price of the seminars. Not bad. Local guys know what they're talking about, particularly stipers/rock.

Oh well, something to break up the winter monotony. The Chantilly VA show is in March. The DC show is coming up soon, but that's mostly pleasure boats.........

    Rick -

I made it up to the show on Friday and climbed around on that 21' Parker as well. It is a really nice boat. I wouldn't have any problems as I am 5'8", but that clearance inside the pilot house ia something like 5'11". Seems strange since Linwood Parker himself is too tall to operate that boat comfortably.

But I have to agree with you that there is a whole lot of room there in that 21' boat. BTW - Parker hulls just don't ride much faster with bigger motors on them. The 150 is pretty standard for the 21' deep v hull.

I saw the Parker too. Nice solid decks and a huge cockpit for a 21. I'm a little over 6' so the cabin was a joke. Can't see driving a boat bent over for hours at a time. You can't tell me they couldn't have engineered another 2 or 3 inches into that thing for little or no cost.

I agree with Rick about the prices. One bought was priced $1000 over what it's listed for in Salty Dog by the same dealer. I priced an Okuma silver and it was exactly the same as Cabela's so why take a change with returns, warrantees, etc.

It was a nice Saturday diversion but not much there to buy.
