I plan to install a new fuel tank in my old Robalo and wanted to know of a good foam product to seal the tank back in. Also any techniques for installing the new tank would also be appreciated (Do I need to weigh down the tank while the foam is expanding around it?). Robalo completely encased their old fuel tanks in foam thus water tended to accumulate on top. Any ideas on how to keep the water off of the top of the tank? Thanks!Todd

Eric (199.46.199.232) from MARYLAND says Here is what I did...
I had an aluminum tank and glassed over it with 2-3 layers of 6 oz. cloth and epoxy first to keep any water from getting to outside of the tank. I then placed it in the tub/hole poured foam ( 2 part from West marine) around it letting the excess flow out the top/sides. I then cut the foam flush with the tank top and glassed/epoxy the perimiter to keep water out as well. This may have been over kill, but that's my story. To hold the tank in place I just used the aluminum cross bars that bolt into the hull. I also kept some body weight on the tank while the foam cured as well just to be safe. That foam REALLY expands. Mix it in small batches to get the hang of it. This was on an 1988 whaler. If you have any direct questions I will try to help.

Eric, thanks that sounds like a good solution to minimizing water contact. I think that's what I will do.
