SUBJECT: # 25744: Bombardier Kill Sitch install???

Submitted by John (64.100.192.6) from NORTH CAROLINA on 7/15/03 1:57:00 PM

Folks,

I am going to install a kill switch on my boat, the motor is a new (2003) Johnson. The instructions that came with the switch are vague. I know this is simple, but want to do it right. Can someone step me through the process with particular attention to wire color...

Thanks

Don't you have a kill switch that comes standard with the Bombardier controls or wiring kit?

If you are putting this motor on an old boat with old wiring, inspect the condition very carefully, especially for corrosion of the copper under the unsulation.

It is an old boat with old controls, all wiring is new.

If you have new wiring, then you have a kill switch clip that attaches to the key switch.

the wires are new, the switch is old. there is presently no kill switch.

That's a pretty old setup if it didn't come with a kill switch. IF you ever have any weird ignition problems, get rid of the old wiring.

To install a kill switch, you will wire it in parallel with the key switch, between the black/yellow and the black ground wire. You have a magneto type ignition and you short the B/Y wire to ground to turn the motor off. Be careful, insulate all connections, and use a quality kill switch, that wire carries 200-400 volts depending on rpm.
