Gentlemen : I have a 1989 wellcraft 20 ft. CC Fish. For the past few daysI have been trying to remove the fuel pick-up from the tank without much success . The pick-up has a rectangular head 3/4 x 1 inch and is attached to the fiberglass tank by a 1 1/4 inch hexagonal nut . I have loosened the 1 1/4 nut but can not remove the pick-up . If any one can give me advice on how to remove it would be welcomed . This is the last ditch effort on getting fuel from the tank to the engine as I believe the fuel filter is clogged.

You may be looking at the anti siphon valve.
I have the same boat, 1989 20 cc, I have not even looked at my tank, hope its fiberglass like yours.
Good luck,
Gene

Gene may be on the right track about the anti siphon
valve. since you cannot remove the pickup, try removing
the gasline from the rectangular head and then remove
the fitting from the rectangular head. that fitting
should contain the anti siphon valve, which consists of
a checkball. On my 1992 Proline the anti siphon valve
checkball got stuck and the gas could not flow so I
replaced that fitting with a plain one (without a check
valve) hope this helps you.

Thank you for your help. I removed previously what I thought to be the anti-siphon valve from the rectangular head , it tuned out to be a petcock to turn off the fuel at the tank . Now I have a direct connection to the head . My next line of action is to see if I can purchase a new pick up and install it adjacent to the old . If anyone can give me a lead on where to one , I would apreaciate it.

You might also try removing the fuel line in front of your filter, and see if you can siphon gas out that way.
I'm assuming you have a spin-on, or cannister-type aftermarket filter.
From your post, it appears you think the pick-up is plugged.
Can you remove fuel line, and blow into the pick-up? (use a small piece of new fuel line to keep your lips un-gassed)
My point is: try and determine where your blockage is....when you get stymied at one point, don't give up, and you may still be able to isolate your problem.
Good Luck!

The Englishman (68.65.156.170) from PENNSYLVANIA says Wellcraft Fuel Tank
After two years of screwing around with the fuel system from the tank to the engine I have finally solved what was causing the ball to flatten. After syphoning all the fuel from the tank and mopping it dry , I left it to vent the fumes. I attached a small diameter piece of plastic pipe to my shop vac and cleaned out the tank . The first thing to come out was a fiber cap about the size of a nickle off a bottle of fuel additive. This had been floating on the bottom of the tank and was drawn to the pick-up and would completly close off the pick-up causing the fuel pumps to pull a vacuum and flatten the ball.
