I have the opportunity to buy a 19' Redfin tunnel boat with a 150 Mercury on it (1999 model). I was wondering how the ride on that boat is for places like West Matagorda and Lavaca Bays. I'm coming from a 16' Boston Whaler (88hp), so keep in mind I'm not exactly used to luxury. Btw, the guy wants ~8k for the whole thing. That seems reasonable to me, but I think I can talk him down some.

Well... Apparently Redfin went out of business in 2001. Anyone know why? Bad design? Bad quality?

Redfin has always been nicknamed "Wetfin", and I had one. It was a 1990 model 22ft and was as solid of a boat as you could want. It was just not the driest of boat rides on even moderate chop. Don't know if they ever changed the hull design but the one I had just threw water out in front of the nose, then you drove into it. I got soaked plenty of times trying to cross Aransas bay and Matagorda bays. However, other than being a wet ride, the hull was solid and would run shallow. P.S. - mine had a 175 on it so I bet that 150 will reallyu push that 19 good.

I was beginning to wonder if anyone out there had ever heard of these boats before. :)

Well... The web is one of the greatest learning tools of our day. I was able to learn all about transom rot and what to look for to detect. :)
And that is why that boat is cheap. Oh well... I'll keep looking.
