Tom Stewart from TEXAS says I had two on a grady
I had a 85' trophy pro grady with two seadrive units. didn't like them because:
sat too low in the water which translated into poor performance and water would get under the cowling(spelling?) while drifting and caused problems.
I eventually re-powered and had to fill some holes and buy a bracket to mount the new engines on.
Having said all of that here is the issue from my standpoint.
If the engine height is fine when he water tests the unit and he doesn't plan on repowering that unit any time soon, it may be an ok deal.....but if you have to repower you will look at $400-$800 or so in fiberglass work, the extra expense of having to buy a bracket on top of the engine cost.
Hope this helps.

This motor is already on a bracket, would that make the situation better or worse

Tom Stewart from TEXAS says The bracket is part of the motor
The bracket is part of the motor on seadrives. If you re-power the seadrive will come off, transom holes repaired and then you will bolt on a new bracket designed for outboards and hang the new engine.
