SUBJECT: # 26870: painting lower unit - which way? Dunk, Sal, Mike, ALL

Submitted by Joe (209.149.90.165) from ALABAMA on 9/8/04 9:43:00 PM

I've got 1998 twin saltwater Yams. I keep the boat away from home and have not used it much this year, but have noticed increased corrosion since the spring. I rinse it off after every trip.

Just brought it home and after every trip the corrosion (white chalk) is bad in several spots. The lower units are pitted in several places. Now, I'm sanding to the aluminum and was going the zinc chromate way, but after reading Dunks method it sounds easier.
Dunk - do you still paint that way which I read about in older repainting posts?

Also, what would cause such bad corrosion? I put new anodes on yearly and rinse motors off and it is kept out of water.

Thanks
