SUBJECT: # 26873: Annoying Problem with New Furuno Chartplotter

Submitted by Buck Tailjig (69.37.240.3) from CONNECTICUT on 9/10/04 2:02:00 PM

Can anybody suggest a fix for the following? My Furuno chartplotter will not properly display the Navionics chart data continuously where two chart layers meet, in the center of Long Island Sound. I operate out of a marina in the middle part of the sound, but the chart for this area stops a few miles to the east. If I navigate to a point over in eastern Long Island Sound, there is just a big blank screen over on that side, when I zoom out enough to see that far over. I have to put my cursor over on the blank part, zoom into that part, in order to see any chart info over there, and when I do, I lose all the chart info over on the western side of the screen. So, in other words, I cannot zoom out and see the entire sound, from east to west, I can only see one side or the other at a time.

I know this is not how the unit is supposed to act - it should be able to present the data seamlessly no matter if your route traverses where two charts come together. My old, cheaper Lowrance unit, using the same Navionics chart, could show data from east to west seamlessly, at any zoom level.

Furuno customer service has been absolutely terrible - at first they told me that I was right, this was not supposed to operate in this manner. Now, they tell me it's actually SUPPOSED to do this, and they consider this matter "resolved."

Has anybody else experienced this problem with Furuno chartplotters?

A buddy had problems with his 1933. Kept shutting down and when you'd turn it back on it had dumpped all the way point numbers. Not that this has anything to do with what yours is doing, but Furuno has had several software/hardware updates for their machines. What you are describing sounds almost like it could be the Nav chip itself..?
