SUBJECT: # 26874: go from 20" transom to 15"?

Submitted by rr (165.166.180.116) from SOUTH CAROLINA on 9/11/04 4:31:00 PM

I just sold my carolina skiff with a 20" transom and the buyer has a short shaft motor. Can he cut the transom down 5"?

Thanks,
RR

I cut mine from 20 to 15.5" on the 14ft CS I had. Most smaller engines are 16-17" from the inside of the transom bracket where it sits on the transom to the anti vent plate(cavitation plate)above the prop. Just mark it out and cut it. Save the piece incase it's needs to go back in some day. After I cut mine I ground the rough edges smooth and then capped it with one layer of 4" wide fiberglass tape and epoxy resin. Sanded the edges of the tape smooth and painted it white. You could barely tell it was done..
