SUBJECT: # 27117: DUNK , or others, Stiletto question.

Submitted by seaweed (66.0.161.209) from MISSISSIPPI on 3/4/05 11:15:00 AM

Dunk, i ask this of you because you know Seabird boats.
i have a 24 ft. Seabird hardtop,with a yam. 225hp.motor.on a bracket.
i am trying to prop it and i am confussed.
a friend of mine has the same rig i have with a yam. 15 1/4 x 15, he says it works for him, but i want to try a stiletto on my boat...the biggest diameter stiletto i can find is a 14 1/4 x 15. what would you suggest i do? does stiletto make a prop that will push this boat?
i know you know how heavy this boat is also as you know she has a 24 degree deadrise all the way to the stern. any insite would be greatly appreaciated, if others have input that would help also,,THANKS in advance.

SW, I'm conserned that the smaller dia Stiletto won't stay hooked up on bracketed outboard. Seabirds are skyrockets to begin with and like to run bow high. The problem is with the engine another 30" behind the boat when the bow does drop into waves the engine get's lifted because it's farther behind the piviot/planning surface of the boat than normal. A larger dia prop compensates for this to a point..and will stay hooked up better in sloppy water.

If I was going to recommend a Stiletto I would look at their Bay Pro III. A four blade 14.25" dia will hook up more solidly than a 15.25" dia 3 blade. A 4 blade will run higher in the water than 3 blade so you'll have more adjustment room when you play with engine height. 15" pitch is where you should be..

thanks for the info, that is about what i was thinking, but wanted to hear it from you. i was hopeing not to pay out 500.00 bucks for a prop, just my nature, i was looking in the 300.00 range...again,, many Thanks Dunk, you deserve an award for all help you have freely given to so many unknown persons. i owe you one. charlie

SeaWeed take a look at the Power Tech OFX series, in 3 or 4 blade. They are offshore series props in the 15.5" diameter and stay hooked up very well. www.PTProp.com
