SUBJECT: # 27331: Seahorse one more check engine light question

Submitted by Bill H (68.109.30.102) from RHODE ISLAND on 6/23/05 6:15:00 PM

My check engine light on my 1997 150 oceanrunner is still comming on once in a while. I know that the vacume switch is working because if I kink the gas line the light comes on. When I let the line go sometimes the light goes off sometimes it doesn't. When the light was on I disconected the plug that connects to the vacume switch assembly, I assume that is the disconect you were refereing to in your answer to my last post . When I did this the light stayed on. I shut off the engine and started it back up and the light came on with that plug disconnected.
Sometimes the light never comes on for a couple of days of pretty heavy use. I didn't have this problem when I put the boat away last fall, it started the first time I started it up this spring. What should I look for now. Thanks in advance. Bill

Sounds like an intermittent shorted wire somewhere or a bad gauge. Most likely a gauge.

Substituting a known good one is the only way to be sure.

New info. When I turn my key to on position without starting the motor the system check will cycle though. After it checks everything the check engine light comes on and the engine is not even running. Is a bad gauge or should I look at something else. thanks!!!
