Mod-V Parker sport cabin ... would you out a 225 or 250 on it? These are admittedly not fast boats and I'd like to get fuel economy. Before my #3 cylinder ate a ring :( , I could cruise @ 24 knots, 4000 RPMs, for 2-2.3 miles per gallon as read from my fuel computer, with my old carb's 225hp Johnson. So ... what would you get and why? Any performance numbers to share? Thank you in advance for all thoughts :) !

Ssb (66.150.138.183) from TEXAS says 225 vs 250
BOTH are 90 degree / V-6 / 200 cu in / blocks....
Obviously 250 should get little better overall performance but is from more hp only and more fuel input....
BUT BUT IT still may not make any difference in speed because of hull design .....and like you said your boat is inherently SLOW anyway....
If it is not good planning hull you may need the HP anyway? You know your boat better!
Also difference is in price at retail price which is 1000 more in larger motor.

I wouldn't say they are slow. Are we talking the 23 or 25??
I'll bet if you call Parker they say the 200hp will be plenty. They are realitively flat bottomed and not hard to push. I also would recommend the big block 200hp Evinrude. It's going to run 2" less pitch than the 225 and probably 4" less pitch than the 250. The 200 will get the boat out of the hole faster with less prop than the other two. It will also be more responsive throughout the whole throttle range. That extra 25 and 50 hp doesn't come to life until you get above 4500-5000 rpms. At the end of the day you'll have 2 gals more fuel left in the tank for every hour you spend at cruising speed over the 225 and probably 3 with the 250. I'll bet you won't see 5mph difference between the 200 and 250 at top end which you don't use anyway. Not to mention the couple of grand you'll save on a 200 vs the 225/250..

Reel, the best value in any engine is always the powerhead that puts out the least HP in its powerhead class. The 200 is the same powerhead as the 225/250. The 200 E-tec is 220 at the prop and they've got an HO version that's probably a little hotter than that. Unless you want the best top end speed the 200 will do everything the other two will on less fuel..and less out of the pocket to buy it.

I hear ya' ... I learned that lesson the hard way once when I bumped up to a 225hp from a 150hp on the old Pro-Line. People, like you, were advising that I get the 175hp back then, as the hull design (mod/flat-V, narrow beam, no strakes) couldn't use the top end the 225hp would put out. They were right ...
