http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Johnson-115-hp-Runabout-boat-w-Newly-painted-trailer_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ31270QQitemZ4570891222QQrdZ1 I hung that 01 115 Johnson that I drove to WV to get. The Johnson is mint, 20-25 freshwater hours. Put a new pump in her and hung her on the 17 Mako.. The 87 110 was twisting a 15" Stiletto at 5500, so I figured what the hell I'll start with that prop. She twisted that wheel to 6200 before I had chance to look down at the tach..and pull the throttle back. She turns a 14 x 17" OMC Alum at 6200 trimed up, but that prop is debateable because I had to clean the leading edges of the blades up with a grinder. The 14 x 19 OMC alum that came with it on the other boat is new and she'll twist it to 5900 if you let her go.. Keep in mind I'm still burning the 40-50 to 1 oil mix that was in the tanks plus the oil she's pulling from the oil tank.. The boat was a solid 37-38mph boat with the old 110 Rude and today I saw 44mph at 5900 with the 19" Alum.. My brother has my 19" Stiletto that I ran on the 17 whaler with a 86 110 Johnson, but he doesn't use it because it was only good for real light loads. So I need to try that wheel... The most amazing thing is with the new style V4 gearcase all that crazy porpoising I've been dealing with is just about gone. The 19 Stiletto will hook up more solid than the 19 alum and carry the bow even better.
Now here's the best part. I took a cocktail run to Cape May and back. The 87 110 would burn 14 gals to make the trip every time.. This engine I had trouble getting 10 gals back into the tank. Granted half of this run is off plane, but it sure seems like Bomb tightened things up on these carbed engines compared to the old crossflows.
I just can't get over how much more twist this engine has..and I know my 87 110 is right. 120lb on each cylinder and she idles and runs perfect. The 01' 115 60 degree engine doesn't seem to have the low end grunt the 90 degree engine has, but once you are over 2500 it just takes off like the wind.. Yes, with the 15" Stiletto it's faster out of the hole than 110 crossflow, but you can't run the engine at 6500 and expect it to live..
Anyway I've got a nice 13.25 x 15" Stiletto that I've got no use for.. Anyone interested email me..

Sal, I'm going to hang the 110 on it and sell it.. It's a 76 Arrow Glass built in Miss. Actually it's in nice shape. Really the only problem for saltwater is the painted trailer, but as long as it's kept painted it should last a few years. The steering, seats and 18 gal bow tank are new. The wiring in it is little scary looking, but I'm going straighten that out before I sell it. It will make nice little back bay runabout for someone..

If you are interested in the boat before I hang the engine email me dunk79...at...comcast.net
I'll sell the boat before the engine, because I don't want to be stuck without an engine for it. I can sell the engine by itself in an hour if I have too.
With the 115 it ran over 50mph. The boat really only needs a 70hp to be fun little boat.. It's got a deep V hull and it rides surprising well for a light boat.

That is a fine looking new horse Dunk ... best of luck with it. That boat is sharp looking also you shouldn't have any problem unloading it with or without the 110.

The boat sat through two auctions and no one bid on it. He had an offer of 2500 on it and turned it down. I bought it for 3200 sent him the money on paypal and made the run to WV on labor day weekend to get it.. I figured it was going to be traffic suicide, but I'm here to tell you everyone must leave WV and northern Maryland for Labor day because the interstates were empty. Outside of the fact I saw a MD state cop about every 100yds I barely used the brakes on the truck during the whole trip. That is boat towing hell out there. You are either going up a mountain or coming down one. I left out there at 3am and the fog in the valley's was like a wall at the bottom of each hill. You be on the brakes down to 20mph and loose all you speed to the climb up the next one. So you'd have your foot into it all the way up the next mountain trying gain speed, so the mileage kind of sucked until the fog burned off.

Dunk, somethings not quite right.
The prop computer shows 22.9 slip on that rig & I know you know that shouldn't be right.
Isn't that lower unit 1.86 ratio ?
A 19p on a 1.86 set of gears at 5900 rpms should turn about 55 mph.

Dunk79 (68.44.136.169) from NEW JERSEY says Stiletto.
2 to 1 in V4's Sal..but that still comes out to about 18% slip with the Alum OMC 19". Which isn't all that bad for an alum prop trimed to the gills.
Yesterday we tried a 19" OMC SST II and the 19" Stiletto. The OMC ran 45mph at 5900, but it wouldn't hang on for full trim. The Stiletto hooked up solid at 5750 and run 46-47 on the GPS. That about 13% slip.. I think I could go up another bolt hole with the stiletto, but I don't want to twist this engine over 5800. The Stiletto is too much wheel for a decent hole shot, but I'm going to bore the vent holes bigger tomorrow and see I can clear some of that up.. Until I get some of the fuel out of the forward 20 gal tank and get her running on the right oil mix I'm not going to screw another with raising the engine.
I still want to try an 18" Raker on her.. Raker's are understated for pitch so an 18" could be just right.
