SUBJECT: # 27648: Filling Small Holes in Transom

I am putting a new transducer on the boat and the holes from the old and new one do not exactly match up. That will leave me with some small holes from the old #8 screws that are below the water line. Can I just fill these with 5200 or should they be filled with epoxy and gelcoated..?
Thanks in advance.

FreeOnBoard from TX says 5200 is a good temporary filler
Had the same situation when I changed depth finders right before a trip. Didn't feel like there was time to epoxy the holes, so just cleaned the area with acetone and filled them with 5200. When I got time to epoxy the holes a few months later, couldn't find any wet wood in the holes. Keep in mind, the original screw holes had been saturated with epoxy when the first transducer was installed.

FearNoFish (66.54.184.41) from TX says I use Marine-Tex
5200 works well but it does not dry hard like Marine-Tex does; Marine-Tex is the boaters version of "JB Weld", you can drill & tap the stuff once its dried.
You use epoxy on the transducer screws? Never thought of that, I always use 4600 and that seems to work well; are you able to back the screws back out after using epoxy?
I might start using 5200 more now that there is a solution available that will lossen it if you need to remove it in the future.
