SUBJECT: # 27652: 200 HP Yamaha Throttle Linkage Stuck

Submitted by The Englishman (68.65.155.73) from PENNSYLVANIA on 8/6/2006 9:31:00 PM

Gentlemen ;

I posted the other day thinking my remote control box on my 1989 200ETLG Yamaha was broken as I could not get into WOT mode . After taking it appart and disconnecting the throttle and gear change linkages as suggested by one of the board members , I found out there was nothing wrong with the box or the or the remote control cables. I disconnected the throttle cable from the engine and it works fine from the remote control box as does the gear shift .
The throttle linkages do not move when I move the contol arm and appear to be siezed . Are there any sensors or electrical devices that would lock out the throttle . I did not hear any alarms the last time I run the boat . I have never taken the carbs off the engine and as far as I could see there were no mssing springs or broken parts . I would think that the carb linkages could be easily opened and closed by the roller on the middle carb.
Your help with this problem will be appreaciated.

    I've got a buddy running a pair of 89' 200hp Yams on the 250 Mako right now. I use the boat all the time...

    You loose me in you second paragraph. The engines won't run because the carbs are siezed?? Not likely...because the throttle plate shafts see every ounce of fuel the engines burn.. Everything on 89' Yams is mechanical..

    You couldn't get to WOT. What happened exactly?

    The remote control lever on the center consol would not go past 45 degrees so I thought the problem was in the control box or the linkage to the engine . After disconnecting the linkages from the box I found the box to be ok , then disconnecting the throttle linkage on the magneto arm at the engine the control lever works the throttle linkage ok . The magneto arm has a throttle linkage and a plastic cam that the middle carb roller rides on . Something is preventing the throttle to open . Whether it a missing spring or broken rod ,I don't know as I can't see anything amiss except I have noticed the carb roller does not sit tight against the throttle cam.

    Dunk :

    I should have added that the engine does run but will not go over 1800 RPM . Plus remote control will not go past 45 degees in reverse or throttle advance.

    Just got boat back from shop . Middle carb. throttle shaft and baffle plates on starboard side were locked up due to corrosion . Mechanic said it was due to salt water drawn in thru air intakes. Took 5 hours shop labor to dissasemble , clean and reassemble. Fair price as I would not have found it. Mechanic told me to spray throttle shafts with Corrosion X .
