SUBJECT: # 27709: Primer on Johnson 90 HP.........

Thanks for all the input below - I am now tinkering with the motor so wish me luck! On the primer, there is a red switch - kind of shaped like a flag. It easily flips back and forth - what is its' purpose? I am assuming it turns the flow on/off but could be wrong. Answers?

    I think that lever switches the primer function between manual mode (controlled by the lever) and automatic mode (controlled by pushing in the key switch). You could probably check this yourself if you can hear the choke solenoid kick in. Move the lever, go turn the key and push it in, and listen.

    When I had an old Evinrude 70, I got the repair manual for it right at the local NAPA store. It was well worth what I spent for it.

    The run postion for the red lever is pointed up the barrel of the primer solenoid. It swing 90 degrees for when you are connecting a fogging oil or Bomb/OMC Engine tuner can to the schrader valve in the center of the red lever. It should have a gray cap in the schrader valve.

    What year is this engine??

    Have you tested the primer as I described down the page?

    Primed it as diescribed below and it fired up FAST. Easily the best start I have had in months - and this was with it sitting idle the last 6 weeks in my drive way. Thanks! Any further pointers on slow starts?

    Please Help. With The Red Lever On The Primer Solenoid In Any Position ( Manual Or Automatic), When I Push In And Turn The Key, Gas Sprays Out The Top Of The Valve. All Fuel Pressure Up To That Point Seems Alright(fuel Flows Fine Up To That Point). I Have A '95 Johnson 115hp. Any Ideas What Might Cause This. I Have Ordered A New Primer Solenoid, But Want To Make It Is Not Something Else. All Answers Are Welcomed And Needed. Thanks
