SUBJECT: # 27909: Mariner 150

Submitted by Scott (71.77.222.206) from NORTH CAROLINA on 9/8/2008 5:58:00 PM

A friend of mine has a 1998 150 HP carb'ed Mariner. When he gives it gas it will go to about 4200 rpm's for a minute of so and then drops back to idle speed. After a couple of minutes of idling it will do the same thing. The primer bulb is staying tight the whole time, the vent for the gas tank is open. Any ideas???

Just a guess, since I'm not familiar with that make. If the control module is designed to limit the RPM in the event of an overheat condition, one of the temperature switches may have gone bad and be tripping at low temperature. You may be able to unplug them one at a time to see if it will run normally. Good luck.
