I have an old sportcraft cuddy that has a direct overboard head. I know these are illegal and I understand why. I have been checked by fish and game people several times on the L.I. sound but never had a full inspection done by the coastguard. If I do I know I'll have a problem. Does anyone know how to get around this without installing a holding tank ?? If I put a rubber plug in the port hole where it pumps out is that ok ??? I have heard something about locking the handle on the pump but I'm not exactly sure what that means .... thanks

I think what you need is a lock on your discharge seacock. I'm not sure, but I would guess that you dont need a holding tank as long as you can prove that the straight discharge is locked out.

This type of set-up is illegal in Canadian Waters also. If you use a lock out you will be questioned on its use. If you have a "portable toilet" , it is also illegal in Canadian Waters. You MUST have a pump out type of holding tank.
